Committees

First Presbyterian Church (FPC), Starkville is a part of the Presbyterian Church (PC) U.S.A. and is governed through a local, regional and national structure:

We are a representative democracy and elect two bodies of officers, Elders and Deacons, to make decisions and to chair the various committees responsible for the work of the church. The bodies of Elders and Deacons each have primary responsibilities in three areas of ministry:

Elders (The Session)

  • Administrative

  • Worship

  • Christian Education

Deacons (The Diaconate)

  • Evangelism and Witness

  • Congregational Care and Nurture

  • Hospitality and Fellowship

Each year during Stewardship season, members are encouraged to complete a Time and Talent form indicating their willingness to serve in specific areas of ministry. These submissions are then used to staff the various church committees. A detailed listing of committee responsibilities can be viewed in this year’s Committee Structure.
