Missions

Local

Anybody in our church can get involved in mission work. There is something for everybody to do, for example, a locally based effort in our church with international reach is our Sewing for Missions group. Sewing for Missions makes simple clothing for the young children in Quimistan, Honduras; baby sheets for our own Child Care Center; and will even tear, roll and or knit bandages for Presbyterian Women’s mission work.

Our church is a committed Habitat partner for the local Starkville Area Habitat for Humanity organization. We have provided financial support and manpower, lodged out-of-town volunteers and provided food for work teams.

This past year Hurricane Katrina devastated our Mississippi Gulf Coast. That event transformed our town into an Evacuee Center and made our church a coordinating center for many in need and many more from around the country that wanted to contribute to the relief effort. Our mission efforts included being a good steward to donated funds, providing school supplies to evacuee children, finding apartments and furniture for evacuated people, sending work teams to the Gulf Coast and contributing money to The Presbyterian Disaster Relief project set up on the coast. We are planning to send additional work teams to the coast this year because the need is great and recovery is still a long way off.
